Carini Lang Showroom Tour

Video by KC Fritz

Within view of the towering World Trade Center, our Carini Lang showroom is nestled on the corner of Jay and Greenwich, and has been our home and workshop for the past 27 years. Through this time, we have worked amongst our neighbors, the passerbys, and the ever changing faces of the people, buildings, and businesses that make Tribeca what it is. It is here, on a quiet but windy street, that we remain, studiously and thoughtfully creating masterpieces in our studio.

On arriving at 335 Greenwich, one might peer through our large bank windows lining the stony facade, dating back to the 1930’s. These openings stretch nearly to our lofty ceiling and fill the showroom with natural light. Once at the front, clients walk through our iconic, ornate copper food into a small vestibule. After ringing the door bell, the expected client will be admitted into the 2,500 square foot showroom with carpets hanging on every surrounding wall.

Immediately upon entering, and after further exploration, a visitor would discover the vestiges of the space's history as a bank. The marble's central columns, the discolored floor marking where a teller’s post would be, the private meeting room converted into an office, and of course the intricate and impossibly heavy vault, are daily reminders of our predecessor’s livelihood. Where businessmen, housewives, and couriers used to complete their errands, now designers, homeowners, and celebrities come to create and enliven their home.

When they enter, they will find themselves in a gallery for the mind and senses, inviting the onlooker to run their hands through plush silk and luxurious Himalayan wool. From soft, supple mohair to cloud-like alpaca wool, our showroom offers our guests to explore the finest fibers in the world. More than the fibers themselves, is the impressive colors our natural vegetable dyes offer, and the different ways they interact with the material. Their vibrant/radiant glow invites you to create and customize truly unique pieces.

If customization isn’t your forte, the showroom offers a near endless array of creations for guests to gravitate subconsciously towards their favorite design, texture and colorway. From Joseph Carini’s iconic Tree and Cloud to our elegant 200 knot natural dye carpets, previous clients have picked their favorite designs to grace some of the most elegant homes in the world.

The showroom is constantly rotating and shifting, evolving with the work and life of a carpet maker. The daily rhythm of color matching, sample pulling, photographing newly arrived carpets, and unraveling rugs with clients creates an expressive, organic environment that reflects the life that is lived here. The space has so much to offer, however, and we make use of it by hosting sound baths, events, and dinner parties, always adding to the memory and spirit of Carini Lang.

We invite you to be a part of our showroom’s life and leave with a piece that can bring soul to your home.
